dentures

A denture is a removable dental appliance created to replace missing teeth. Dentures are an important part of keeping the teeth and mouth in frame when one or more teeth are missing.

There are two types of dentures: complete and partial. Complete dentures are for patients who are missing all of their teeth, while partial dentures will only fill the spaces for missing teeth along an arch. When missing any teeth, partial dentures play an important role in preventing other teeth from shifting their position in the mouth. Typically, our patients receive dentures for the following reasons:

The dentures received are strong and durable. On occasion, dentures may need to be remade, repaired, or readjusted due to regular wear and tear. Mini implants lend support to dentures. Dentures may lack full stability and reliability, leading to discomfort in chewing, speaking, and smiling. Mini implants for dentures provide a permanent solution to stabilizing dentures.

The Procedure

The procedure requires several visits to the practice that are scheduled over the course of several weeks. Within these scheduled visits, accurate molds will be taken to provide custom-made dentures. Preliminary fitting appointments may be necessary to provide optimum outcome in the shaping, color, and fitting of the denture. At the final appointment, the dentures will be ready for adjustment and to be placed by the dentist for a natural and comfortable fit.

Please provide adjustment time for your muscles and tissues to become familiar to the new dentures. During this temporary adjustment period, it is common to experience an increase of saliva flow, soreness, and possible speech and chewing difficulty. Keep in mind this is normal and, in time, your mouth will be fully healed and adjusted.

Additional instructions regarding the care and maintenance of your dentures will be given by the dentist. Proper cleaning and hygiene will help with the longevity of your dentures.

Advantages

Dentures are a great tooth-replacement because they can substitute all or most of your missing teeth while at the same time boosting your self-confidence with a brand new, beautiful smile!

Frequently Asked Dentures Questions

Partial dentures are constructed to fill in missing natural teeth. Partial dentures are usually made with a metal base and then covered in a gum colored plastic for the lower or upper portions of the mouth. In many cases metal hooks wrap around the patient’s molars to stay in place. The metal hook placement depends entirely on the patient’s existing natural teeth.

Losing your teeth can be painful – in more ways than one. But it’s a problem that can be resolved with excellent results. Dentists with Gregorich & Matack and staff can provide you with a comfortable, attractive substitute to your natural teeth that, with proper care, will help you live a healthier, happier life.

Just like natural teeth, dentures wear down and stain with age. Your mouth is constantly changing. To make sure your dentures fit properly, they will need adjustments from time to time. We suggest seeing your dentist yearly for a denture check-up. You should always notify your dentist at the first sign of irritation, no matter how minor it may seem.

Gregorich & Matack dentures are custom-crafted to suit you — with the end goal being to create something that is both incredibly comfortable and natural looking.

Dentures may feel strange at first. This is normal. Once your facial muscles and oral tissues adapt, your dentures should feel very comfortable. Some people adjust to dentures in a week, while others take a little longer.

There may be minor differences at first. Don’t be concerned. Once your mouth is accustomed to the change, this should subside. Reading aloud is an excellent exercise for helping to restore normal speech quickly!
